Molly was hand picked by her training organization CCDT Training when she was a few weeks old. Around 8 weeks old she began her service dog training. Molly’s skills are numerous and impressive. She pushes and pulls carts, opens and closes doors, carries a pack full of school books. She can get items off of grocery shelves and place them in a cart, pick up drop objects and return them. She can retrieve a phone for emergencies, push buttons, turn light switches on and off. Her ability to carry, push and pull things is adaptable to carrying luggage, getting heavy objects in and out of the car (including grocery bags) and much more. She has learned to help with balance, and alerting her future handler to pain flare ups before they happen, and help Eve dress and undress and act as a buffer in crowds.
Molly was specially selected for a life of service work. And she picked our friend Eve to serve. She was introduced to potential handlers before Eve. While she liked everyone she met, somehow she knew that each person she met was not “the one.” Until the day she met Eve. Molly’s trainer kept looking for that special thing that happens when a service dog picks their person. The day Molly and Eve met for the first time her trainer knew that Molly had picked Eve.
All of the tasks Molly can do are very impressive. However, what is most impressive about Molly is her heart. She has a servant’s heart and is happiest when she is working. Work isn’t all about public access and doing the functions for Eve that are either impossible or extremely painful for her to perform. Work can be chilling with Eve, playing with Eve, communing, and watching out for her. Because Molly needs to help, she is able to adapt her skills and trouble shoot situations to figure out the best possible solutions to any given situation. Currently, Molly is learning the medial alert piece her training, and gets extremely excited when she successfully communicates Eve’s need to take medication at just the right time.
Molly is definitely not all work and no play. She lives to play ball, Frisbee, and tug. She loves to swim, run next to a bike, and roll in mud (especially after a bath). Molly loves to play with her service dog brother Zach and wiggle on her back in grass. She plays as hard as she works. When not in her service dog pack, her tail wags so much and so hard she frequently knocks things over and wackes knees and shins. She is a good girl though and picks up after her butt of destruction.
Don’t let Molly’s gentle spirit fool you. She is built like a tank and strong. Just ask the people who play all out tug with her. She’ll drag anyone around the floor who thinks they can take her in a game of tug.
Molly’s joy for living is contagious, it’s impossible to be glum for to long around her. She is excited about her future with Eve and is eager to begin her life as Eve’s service dog.
